Paper Piecing, Weaving, Folding Week - Neil Walker

Hello, it's a new week here on The Craft Barn blog and first of all I have to tell you that as from February, we shall be moving this blog back to where we were before on thecraftbarnblog.blogspot.co.uk

n01

This week we are looking at paper piecing, weaving and folding, different ways to use our very important papers.  Neil is going to start us off.......

This is how Neil made it.....

"A little while ago I had a pile of tiny strips left over from another project which I just pushed to one side of my desk at the time meaning to bin them later.
Then, this week's theme of weaving came up and I decided to use them instead of tossing them. So I started to weave them and ended up with this.

n02 (2)

1.  Using the size of the finished weave as a guide I cut 10 pieces of white sketching paper and 1 piece of kraft card to a suitable size.
I folded the card in half and re opened it to give me a guide and laying it on top of the white paper stapled the whole lot together.

2.  Once that was done I folded the whole thing to make a little book and trimmed off the edges to neaten everything with a craft knife and ruler.
I added a strip of double sided tape around the book and attached a flat piece of ribbon to the cover to create a tie to keep the book closed.

3.  Over this I glued the woven piece of card.

4.  When that was dry I swiped the archival ink over the whole book to add some colour and highlight the texture of the weaving.

5.  To protect and seal the book I gave it a coat of Finishing Medium.

n07 (2)

6.  To finish it off I simply added a flower as I didn't want to cover up the woven texture too much".

And the finished project....

Love the look of the finished book and it's an interesting technique to use up those pesky leftovers...

Think it's a good idea to go back to Blogspot as I can't see how people can subscribe here. I use RSS so it didn't bother me!
