Sweet Poppy Stencil Week - Neil Walker

Neil Walker kicks off the Sweet Poppy Stencil week with this wonderful box. He has used the Phoenix Sweet Poppy stencil and PaperArtsy Grunge Paste. Full PDF instructions are available to download.

1. Position the stencil over the lid of the box.

2. Use Grunge Paste and a palette knife to spread the paste over the image.

3. When the top is done, carefully flip the box onto its side allowing the stencil to "fold" over the edge. Add more paste.

4. Carefully open the box, neaten up the edges by the join if needed and allow to dry.

5. When dry, paint the box covering everything with the colour.

6. Before the paint is totally dry, use a moist cloth to wipe back the colour exposing the Phoenix again.

7. Use a brush to work in Treasure Gold Copper over the whole image quite heavily, and lightly over the wooden areas.

8. Wipe back the Copper with a cloth to expose the base image clearly again.

9. This gives you a faded, layered more subtle finish to the box.
